We’re improving the Dutch drinking water distribution with data

It’s official – we’re improving drinking water distribution with data, together with MeterInsight and Brabant Water N.V. ! We’ll be using smart algorithms on sensor data in real time to detect consumption anomalies and provide informative historical reports.

The energy sector is making great steps with real-time sensor data and data-driven reporting and scheduling. Now that the water sector is beginning to install smart water meters at large commercial consumers, we’re excited to discover the data-driven business value & impact hidden in this giant sector!

The problem: Water utilities track patterns in consumption data of drinking water to discover unusual events such as leaks. Unlocking this valuable information is a slow and labour-intensive process, whereas an early-warning system would require real-time automated analysis.

To help utilities enable new services that save drinking water, Seita is developing a pattern detection and classification toolbox to provide real-time automated analysis for monitoring platforms.

Contact us if we can learn from you or collaborate with you. Here is the official announcement by our founding partner Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica, with who we are discussing the sensor data algorithms.

Learning what the business value of such algorithms can be in this sector is crucial for us, so we hope to have any conversations about this with stakeholders.

We are working with approaches developed at the CWI and finetune them at Seita with the help of students. During the two-year project, we’ll share results and outcomes of pilots.
